Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Math: We started off with a mad minutes for addition and subtraction. They had 5 minutes to complete the sheet. We will start doing these every day in order to improve our addition and subtraction skills. The goal is that they know the facts without counting on their fingers. Next we moved onto estimating. There are two ways to estimate.

1. Nearest 100: This is rounding to the nearest 100. This type makes sense to use when the numbers are going to be rounded up.

2. Front-End Estimation: With this type you forget the other numbers but the first number. For example, 378 is rounded to 300 when using this type. This type makes sense when rounding down.

**Exception: When a two digit number is involved you round both numbers to the nearest 10!!

We did some questions on the board and then they did some textbook work.

Language: Today we played apples to apples! Each pair had 6 words and I showed them a picture and they had to see if they had a word that described the picture. We talked about not only using adjectives to describe what they look like but using all of their senses and what it makes them feel. For example, not just saying that the shark was grey but it is painful as well.

Gym: Please see Mr. B's blog for more information.

Language/UOI: We finished off language by completing a adjective worksheet. They had to underline the adjective and write the noun on the sentence that the adjective was describing.
UOI: They finished off their advertisement. If it was not finished it is homework.

Today we started a new system in class to manage our behaviour. We are using a stoplight. We decided together that if you get into the red then you have a 10 minute time out. If you get into the purple then it is a whole recess. If it is outside the purple then it is community service. Ask your son or daughter where they ended up today!
