Here is what we did today.
Presentations: We presented three more stories! Stay tuned for the videos!
Language: Today we started talking about persuasive writing. We used the OREO method! Opinion, reason, evidence Opinion. This is the method that we will be using. It helps the kids to remember to provide evidence and adequate reasons. Next we read the story "Earrings" by Judith Viorst and used the OREO method to outline the story.
Spelling Bee: We took an extra few minutes to practice for the spelling bee!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Math: We were feeling very confused about the math lately so we took some time to go over the homework and information we have learned. We are having trouble differentiating between the three angles. The basic rule was to begin with determining if it was a right angle. First rule was to use two rulers to help find the L shape. If that isnt working then start at the corner and draw line straight out in either direction and if the L shape that should be formed does not match the line then it is not a right angle. If it is not a right angle then we can ask if it is a small angle, then it is smaller than a right angle. If it is not small but it is wide, then it is larger than a right angle.
Next we went on to today's lesson which was naming angles. We talked about the different math prefixes (tri=3, quad=4 etc). We talked about how there is a difference in shape between a regular pentagon and an irregular pentagon (any shape with five sides). We learned that a rhombus is a slanted square, has all equal sides and 2 pairs of parallel sides. A parallelogram is a slanted rectangle and has two pairs of parallel sides. Finally a trapezoid has one pair of parallel sides.
UOI: Today we started talking about soil and what is in soil. We did some reading comprehension questions together.
