Here is what we did today.
Math: Today we talked about mental addition strategies. We talked about doubles, near doubles and sums of ten (make 10).
Doubles: When the two numbers you are adding are the same.
Ex. 2 + 2 = 4
Near Doubles: When you use your doubles strategies to help you add numbers that are close together.
Ex. 2 + 3 =
We know 2 + 2 = 4
Add one more is 5!
So, 2 + 2 + 1 = 5
Sum of Ten (Make 10): We know and love our 10s! Any easy way to add is by making one of your numbers 10 and add the rest from there.
Ex. 7 + 5
Think:
- How many more to make ten? 3 more 7 + 3 = 10
- Next we ask how many are left over? 2! 10 +2 =12
- SO we know that 7+5=12
Music: Please see Mr. Oliver's blog for more information.
Language/UOI: Today we talked about contractions. We viewed a powerpoint in which explained the original two words and how it becomes a contraction. We talked about the letters that the apostrophe replaces. One of the students said that it is like a fisherman is coming and hooking up some letters and taking some away and leaving the hook! We thought it was a fun analogy! Some of us are getting confused with she/he would and she will. We are going to work on this tomorrow some more. We did some different centre's in groups: One matching worksheet, one matching game and a folding accordion contraction!
Lunch/Recess
Gym: Please see Mr.B's blog for more information.
UOI: We started talking about our summatives! We went through the information package and the graphic organizer together and they had so many questions !
They need to know what product/service they are going to advertise as well as whether or not they are doing a print ad or a digital ad for tomorrow.
