Wednesday Septemner 20th 2017

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.
Morning meeting
Agendas
UOI: Today we continued to work on our advertisements from yesterday. They did really well! Everyone finished and did fantastic! Take a look outside our classroom tomorrow to see what they look like!

They were working so well this morning! Take a look!

Math: We went over some homework to correct our mistakes.

Lunch/Recess

Gym: Please see Mr. Beresford's blog for more information.

We are having a hard time listening and following instructions during gym time. We had to have a very serious chat about how we behave in gym today. I am hoping tomorrow is better.

Math: Today we continued to practice equations involving subtraction. We did some questions on the board and the students tried to figure them out together. They are understanding this concept well! Here are the steps that I gave them to complete their homework tonight.

The hundreds chart helps a lot. Please use them if you are having trouble. Please hand this sheet in tomorrow so we can use the hundreds chart again.

Steps to filling in a blank in a subtraction question:
1.    What are the answers to each side? Write them down underneath
2.    Remember our rules of thumb
a.    If you have a little number and the answer you ADD!
b.    If you have a big number and the answer you SUBTRACT!
3.    Rearrange the question if you have to on the side of your page
4.    Rewrite the equation with the final answer

Example:
13 -  ______= 15 – 7
                        8
13-8=5
13-5=15-7
If you are trying to figure out two questions are equal:

1.    What are the answers to each side? Write them down underneath
2.    Are they equal? If they are not write “They are not equal”
3.    What number should you make it equal to? Decide which side.
4.    Determine what the equation needs to be in order to make it equal
a.    One side needs to stay the same
b.    The other side cannot change completely, change on number in order to make the equation equal
c.     If they are having trouble, rewrite the question using our rules of thumb

 13 - 5   and 15 – 4
                         8                  11
They are not equal.
                      15-8=7
  13 -  5 = 15 – 7

Remember to ALWAYS rewrite the final answer in an equation!!

 Lunch/Recess

Language: Today we continued to talk about persuasive speeches. We reviewed the concept by creating an outline together. I suggested we write about how we would convince our parents for a later bedtime. Instead, they wanted to write about why my bedtime should be earlier! I was amazed!  They did well doing this. Next I introduced the topic they were going to do on their own persuasive speech outline. We brainstormed some ideas together. Next they started working on their own persuasive speech outline. Some people did fine on this. However, some people are having a hard time understanding that the example needs to back up the reason. We are going to work on this tomorrow.

Have a good night!

Miss. Ross
