Here is what we did today.
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.
Morning Meeting
Math Review: We did a quick worksheet to review some concepts we have learned so far.
Music: Please see Mr.Oliver's blog for more information.
UOI: Today we started working on our own advertisements. We created a company, named it as well as made a logo and a slogan. Tomorrow we will work on the good copy.
Lunch/Recess
Gym: Please see Mr. B's blog for more information.
Math: Today we reviewed the homework to go through questions that we don't understand. Next we started working on equations involving subtraction. We had two general rules of thumb.
Rule of thumb:
If you have a little number and the answer you ADD!
___- 2 =15
15+2 =17
SO
17-2=15
If you have a big number and the answer you
SUBTRACT!
17- _____=15
17-15=2
SO
17-2=15
When dealing with a question asks "Are these sums equal". First figure out what the answer to both questions are. Next we have to determine if they are equal. Next decide which one you are going to make it equal to. Then determine how to make it equal using the rules of thumb.
Example:
13 - 5 and 15 – 4
8 11
They are not equal.
13 - 5
= 15 – 7
If
you need to rewrite the question to see both sides that is okay too. So
you know that you have to make the answers to equal 8 so you can write the
question again to make it easier.
15-
_______= 8
You
know that you have the big number and the answer so you subtract.
15-8=7
Please make sure they are following these examples properly as it will help them understand properly.
Lunch/Recess
Language/UOI: We continued to talk about persuasive speeches! Today we reviewed the concept of OREO (Opinion, reason, evidence and opinion) and wrote out one together based on "Should we have longer recess?". Tomorrow they will be doing an persuasive speech planner on their own.
Have a good night!
