Monday February 6th 2017
Hello,
Here is what we did today.
Spelling: The test is on Friday and spelling is due on Thursday.
Earth Rangers: The Earth rangers came to present to us today! They had so much fun!
Language: We had time to work on our sleepover letters.
Lunch/Recess
Math: Today we worked on lines of symmetry. We worked in pairs to determine how many lines of symmetry each shape had. Each pair had a set of shapes to cut out and fold in half to determine the lines of symmetry.
UOI: Today we made cityscapes! The drew on paper with markers and created a cityscape. They made sure to include all of the parts of a city. Next I used water to create a reflection on the other side of the paper (This relates to math too!! ) They look great!
Lunch/Recess
Party! The kids finally reached 200 points so they continued to colour their cityscapes and watched an episode of Magic School bus. Good work everyone!

Hello,
Here is what we did on Friday.
Spelling: Tests will be handed back on Monday.
Language: Today we started working on our letters! We used our previous brainstorming plans to write a letter to someone about the rules and routines of your house before coming over for a sleepover. We will be finishing on Monday.

Lunch/Recess
Math: Today we worked on reflections! We talked about the reflection line and how a picture can be reflected vertically and horizontally. We used the geo-mirrors to reflect a picture and draw the other side. We did two pictures. One that was sent home and one that was coloured (with the same colours on both sides in order to be an accurate reflection). We ended the period doing some textbook work. They had a lot of fun!
UOI: Today we talked about being open-minded as this is our IB learner profile for the month. We read two books. The first one was called "Ish". It was about not being perfect and learning to embrace the imperfections and be open minded. The second one was about Helen Keller. It went through her life story and how people were open minded and what she was able to accomplish as a result. We talked about the use of Braille and how that helped her communicate. They were very interested in her story!

Hello,
Today was Ronit's birthday! Happy Birthday Ronit!
Here is what we did today.
Language: Today we read a levelled text together and picked out the cause and effect relationships within it. Next they did one on their own.

Lunch/Recess
Math: Today we talked about turns. A turn is the rotation of a shape around a point. They can rotate 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4. They can also be described by the direction they move, clockwise or counterclockwise. We did several examples together and then the kids came to the board and I gave them some questions to do as they came up to the board. Next we did some textbook work. They did very well.
UOI: Today we talked about buying and selling. We talked about how we need things from the country and from the city and how we need to buy and sell in order to survive. They were either from the country or from the city. Each child was given 5 cards which had either country or city items on it which were worth different amounts of points. They had to trade with each other in order to gain what they needed, a bit of resources from both the country and the city. The person with the most points at the end won the game. They had a blast!

UOI: Today we talked about the difference between a good and a service. We made a list on a chart paper of different examples and discussed the terms. Next we made posters selling them and talking about how they are important to a community. They will be on our UOI board tomorrow! Dont forget to take a look!
Math: Today we talked about slides. We talked about what a slide is and briefly talked about the difference between a slide, turn and a reflection. Next we did work from the textbook. They did really well!
