Here is what we did today.
Language: Today we talked about character descriptions and the main idea. I noticed that the children were not writing enough in their weekly comprehensions. They should be writing at least 3 specific things about each character in order to get a level three on the DRA. They can describe any part of the character they know so far. I also noticed that the children were saying the authors purpose was to entertain because it is funny. We are trying to get away from answers like this. As a result, we went over a Robert Munsch book and talked about the main idea of the story, what did the author want you to learn. This helped them to practice looking deep into the story in order to understand the main idea.

Lunch/Recess
Math: We completed a math pre test on Patterns in numbers and geometry.
UOI: As we were reading Stuart Little, we were very disappointed with the ending. As a result we have decided to write another chapter of the book. This will help them practice how to write the ending of a story as to ensure they are not ending suddenly. We will be working on this tomorrow in language and UOI as well.
Lunch/Recess
UOI: We continued to work on our Stuart Little chapter.
We ended the day with Gym.
