UOI: Today we started a new unit on Forces and Motion! We wrote on post-it notes what we already know about forces and motion. Next They looked through books about forces and motion to see what they would like to know more about! Finally we watched a magic school bus episode on motion. They are loving this topic!!

Math: Today we talked about ordinal numbers. These are numbers such as, first, second, third and fourth. We were communicators when we put ourselves in order from smallest to tallest as well as by birthdays. They had to know which person was in which place and which place they were in.

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Daily Five: Today we did listen to reading, read to someone/self, making spelling words out of play-doh and practicing cursive.
Language: Today we worked on a new comprehension strategy called LQ3R. The first stage is Look. Look at the pictures, title, headings, the first two sentences and the questions.  The next stage is question. What is this assignment about. The next stage is read, recite the main points and review the main points. While reading they can look for the answers and underline the important points.
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we worked on rounding! First they told me what the rounding rules for rounding were. Next we played a rounding game in which I had written several numbers on the board and kept them covered on the board. I took off each paper and had the children write the rounded number (to either ten or hundred). They had some trouble rounding numbers in the thousands to the nearest ten so we practiced that a lot. Next they did some work in the textbook.
UOI: We worked on presentations! They were all so good! They were all too big so I have posted them on youtube on a private link so only people with the link can see it. Here they are:

Tuesday November 22nd 2016

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Science fair: Today we worked on our science fair board!
UOI: We continued to work on our summatives. They are coming along well and I am very pleased! Good work everyone!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: We continued to work on our summatives.
Math: Today we started off the period with a recap from yesterday. I gave them some numbers, verbal and on the board, and they had to put them in the right column on the chart on their whiteboard. Today we found patterns within the hundreds chart. We realized that when you go down you increased by 10. When you go diagonal and to the left the numbers add up to the first single digit number. When you go diagonal and to the right both the tens digit and the ones digit increase by 1. We used our new whiteboards to find these patterns. Then we did some questions from the grade 3 textbook and then the grade 4 textbook to challenge ourselves!

Monday November 21st 2016

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Spelling: Spelling work is due Thursday and the test is Friday.
Science fair: We continued to work on our science fair project by making graphs to go along with it!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we worked on reading 3 digit numbers and place value. First we used the base ten  blocks to help us draw numbers on a whiteboard. Next I drew a chart on the board in which each number was separated into the column appropriate to its base ten. We learned that we always start with the last number and count forward the different place value columns. For example, for the number 672: 2 goes in the ones, 7 in the tens and 6 in the hundreds. Next we made it harder and challenged ourselves! I added thousands and they drew them on their whiteboard. Then we added 10,000's and we practiced reading the numbers. Then we did 100,000's! They loved it and were really getting the hang on it. Test them out this week for more practice!

UOI: Today we continued to work on our summative's. Please make sure they are bringing in any necessary materials for tomorrow.
