Friday May 11 2018

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

This week the golden broom was won by Ms. Ayoub.

Spelling Bee: They all worked so hard and I am so proud of everyone! Our top three with Medha, Sanjana and Ruhaan. Great work everyone!

After the spelling bee they needed to run off some stress so we went to the gym and played octopus!

Math: We started working on angles. We went through it step by step on how to use a protractor. We also learned that a right angle is 90 degrees and that is the angle we use to compare against, less than a right angle or more than a right angle.

We did some work with our partners and practiced using them in the textbook.

Math: We continued with angles. Now everyone had their own protractor and practiced using them. here are some tips and things I told them.

  • Put a coloured dot on the corner they are measuring. This will help them to see where the cross inside the circle goes.
  • If you can see the line of the angle through your protractor, then it is not lined up properly
  • Look which way the angle is facing. If it is facing the right, then you look at the inside line. If the angle is facing left, you look at the outside line.
  • If you are unsure if your answer is right, lightly draw a vertical line up from the corner to see if you are more than a right angle or less than a right angle
  • Do your numbers match? If your angle is really bigger than a right angle and your number is 50 degrees... then you know you have gone wrong. Check again.

UOI: We did our soil experiment! We went outside and got soil in our jars. Next we put water in them and drew a picture of what it looks like now. Next we shook them and waited five minutes. Then we drew a picture of what it looks like now. On Monday we will look again and see what has changed!

Surprise activity!
