Friday March 2nd 2018

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Awards: Our open-minded winner was Vidhi! Tara also won the award from Mr. B! Great job girls!

Math: Today we talked about equivalent fractions again in order to gain a better understanding. We first watched a khan academy video:

https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic/fraction-arithmetic/arith-review-visualizing-equiv-frac/v/equivalent-amount-of-pizza

This helped us to understand what equivalent means and how we use multiplication to understand. The golden rule : Whatever we do to the bottom we do to the top. This helps us to ensure the fractions are equivalent. Next we used a powerpoint to do some examples in which they had to figure out what was multiplied to get the next equivalent denominator from an original fraction. Then used this same number to multiply the top. They did VERY well with this concept! Next they did a worksheet together. Everyone did very well!

Music: Please see Mr. Oliver's blog for more information.
Spelling test:  They will be handed back on Monday.
Language: We finished reading chapter 16 and 17! They are loving this book. They worked on the sheets to match the chapters. For homework this weekend they are to finish chapter 18 and the worksheet. Most people finished this work in class.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we learned about comparing and ordering fractions. We look at a powerpoint that explained the concept very easily to us. The golden rule is if there is an improper fraction they ALWAYS CONVERT FIRST! The denominator will always stay the same with the questions they are working on. As a result they need to look at the top of the fraction and put them in the order it asking for, greatest to least or least to greatest. Once the fraction is converted they can put them in the proper order. We worked together as a class to put the fractions in order from least to greatest and verse versa. The students also worked with a partner to put 2 separate sets in order on whiteboards. We practiced converting improper fractions to mixed fractions so we could accurately place the fractions in order. We worked on textbook questions independently and all gave the thumbs up to understanding this concept!

UOI: We worked on our summative. The children will be working on their model/drawing next week so they need to start bringing in their materials.

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.
Took up math homework.

Have a good weekend!
