UOI: Today we did an emergency survival simulation! The children had an emergency camping situation in which they got lost and had to determine which items were going to be the most important in order to survive and arrive back at camp. It was a very interesting experience. They had to work together, communicate effectively and listen to each others ideas. After they had time to number their items we discussed their answers and talked about the most important things for survival: water, food, shelter and first aid. They had a lot of fun!
Math: We continued talking about adding today. We used our knowledge to answer word problems.
Lunch/Recess
Math: We continued working on our math problems.
Gym: Please see Mr. H's blog for more information.
Have a great weekend!

UOI: Today we talked about Terry Fox. We began by talking about why he was important, what we knew about him and some facts about cancer. Next we read a story about the friendship between Rick Hansen and Terry Fox. Finally we talked about what a friend is and they filled out a paper saying "A friend is someone I can..."
Math: Today we talked about subtraction of two three digit numbers. We did some practice questions on the board and they did some questions with their partners. We figured out that you have to borrow from the column next to it unless it is a zero. Finally they completed some questions in the textbook.
Lunch/Recess

Hello,
Here is what we did today!
Language: Today we learned about contractions! First I gave them a matching game. Each table had a set of pictures and they had to match the regular words with the contraction; for example, will not with won't. After this we made a huge list of all the contractions we talked about and even more! Next we made foldable contraction papers! The children wrote the words normally and the contraction on the other side. When they fold them it makes the contraction!
UOI: Today we started working on manners around the world! The children were put into pairs/groups and given a country to research. They have categories that they need to find information on from an information package. They will be working on this tomorrow as well!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information
Lunch/Recess
UOI: We continued working on our manners around the world work.
Math: Today we continued working on rounding. First we reviewed what we did yesterday. Next we introduced a new type of adding called front end estimation. Using this way you only use the first number in order to round. For example, the number 599 is rounding to 500. We did a few questions on the board and then worked on a worksheet.
Lunch/Recess
Music: Please see Mr. Andrei's blog for more information.
Gym: Please see Mr. H's blog for more information.
Have a good night!
Miss. Ross
Special notes:
Please note the correction in the Squash program attachment. The classes start in October - we apologize for the confusion!
Please note the correction in the Yoga program. The classes start on October 5th - we apologize for the confusion!

Hello,
Here is what we did today!
UOI/Language: Today we worked on kung-fu punctuation! It is a fun way to remember the different types of punctuation! Take a look at what we did! You can test your children tonight to see if they remember what they are!
Spelling: We started the new set of words. Test is on Friday!
Daily Five: We did our daily rotation.
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.
Lunch/Recess
UOI: Today we did our table setting quiz! They worked very hard and tried their best.
Math: Today we started working on rounding! This was a tricky topic so we started at the basics. We started with the rule:
5 or higher we round UP
4 or lower we round DOWN
When rounding to the nearest ten you look at the ONES number. The TENS column will tell you which number to go up or down to.
When rounding to the nearest hundred you look at the TENS number. The HUNDREDS column will tell you which number to go up or down to.
We rounded to the nearest ten and rounded to the nearest 100. Next we practiced estimating an addition and subtraction question and then rounding the answer. They did well but we are going to do more work on it tomorrow.
Lunch/Recess
We continued working on math. When they finished they practiced rounding in groups using whiteboards.

Hello,
Here is what we did today.

Math: Today we worked on adding and subtracting mentally. I gave them an adding and subtracting question and they had to figure out how to solve the question. Next I provided some strategies in order to figure out how to how to add or subtract mentally. The best way to add or subtract mentally is to add or subtract numbers to equal a multiple of ten. This makes it easier to add or subtract mentally. The second step is to add or subtract the left overs.
Lunch/Recess
Some of the children worked on math, cursive writing and the language friendship stories!
