Here is what we did today.

Morning meeting
UOI: Today we continued talking about target audience. We reviewed what we talked about yesterday and moved onto talking about target audiences in commercials. We watched some commercials and analyzed them  individually. We talked about the effectivness of the commercial and whether or not it matched their target audience. We also talked about the use of celebrities in advertisements. Next we used our knowledge of target audiences to create products that match with target audience. They did very well!

Math: Today we continued working on patterns in the hundreds chart. We reviewed number patterns for yesterday and started talking about position patterns. We learned that patterns can go in different directions such as diagonal to the left or right, or vertical. We also talked about how you can describe the position of a pattern by describing the path you would take to get there. For example "1 down and 2 left". We did some examples on the board and then did some work from the textbook.

We continued to work on math.
Language: We talked about comma's today. We talked about how you can use them in four ways:
1. In a list
2. Before or after quotation marks
3. When speaking about a place

4. Date

Language: We did a worksheet in which they had to correct the sentences that were missing capitals and commas.
Mental Math: We continued to play Albert's Insomnia! We got to 24 today! We beat our record!

Here is what we did today!

Morning meeting: We discussed our weekends and talked about the importance of not losing our math textbooks and keeping track of them.
Music: Please see Mr. Oliver's blog for more information.
UOI: Today we talked about target audience and they did so well! They knew that target audience is who you are trying to sell the product to. Next we talked about what target audience we are a part of based on our age, gender and hobbies. Next we discussed two advertisements and determined the target audience by asking four questions: What is the product being sold? What is the age range of the target audience? What is the gender of the target audience? What is the target audience interested in?
Next we looked through magazines to find advertisements that fit with particular target audiences. They did very well!

Spelling: Spelling was started and it is due on Thursday. The test is on Friday.
Language: Today we talked about being an inquirer for our monthly learner profile lesson. We learned that being an inquirer means that you ask questions, do research and are very curious. We read a book on youtube called "More Parts" about a very curious boy! Next we explored our own curiosity by doing research on our own on google. We are very new to doing research on our own so encourage people to practice using google at home.

Math: Today we started talking about patterns in the hundreds chart. We found patterns and learned how to describe patterns. We learned that we must state which number we are starting on and then count on or back by a number). We did some examples on the board together. Next we learned how to set up our page in our new notebooks and understanding how to use the textbook. It is not an easy concept to grasp!

Here is what we did on Friday.

UOI: Today we talked about the purpose of an advertisement. We learned there are three purposes for an advertisement: to persuade, to inform or to entertain. We went through some examples together and talked about the reasoning behind them. Next I showed them several advertisements and they decided what the purpose of each one was and we talked about why after each one. They seem to have a good understanding of the purpose of an advertisement.
Math: We worked on a math pre-test.

Recess/Lunch

UOI/Language: Today we talked about capital letters and periods. We went through the various times you use a capital and did some examples on the board. Next I put out some task cards in which they had to rewrite the sentences with the correct capital letters.

Back to School Kick off!

Morning meeting: We talked about what we did last night during our short break in between subjects
Music: Please see Mr. Oliver's blog for more information.
Language: We talked about our goals for the year. We learned that they need to be realistic and specific.

Lunch/Recess

Gym: Please see Mr. B's blog for more information.
UOI: First we finished our collages from yesterday. They turned out excellent! Next we moved onto adevertisements. First we talked with our partners about what an advertisement is. We learned that it is something that sells a good or service. Next we talked about different types of advertisements and i colour coded them. They figured out that the different colours meant a print advertisement or a digital advertisement. Next we talked about the features of an advertisement. Then I gave them two pictures and they had to figure out what the difference between them was (One was an image and one was an advertisement). Finally I gave them a magazine and they had to find an advertisement and tell me what it was selling.  We learned a lot today!

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we did math games! We did four centres:

1. Hundreds chart puzzles: They had to put together the cut up hundreds chart.
2. Finding the pattern rule on the task cards
3. Colouring patterns on the paint chips.
3. Colouring a pattern on the hundreds chart. They had a ton of fun today!

First Day of School

First Day of School!

Hello!

We had a great day of School!

Classroom Rules: We thought together about what the rules of our classroom should be. They were excellent at using the learner profiles to guide their behaviour! Great job!
Get to know you: We got to know each other by playing a human scavenger hunt and asking the me questions.
Lunch/Recess

UOI: We started talking about the media! We talked about the media briefly and explored a facet of the media by using magazines to make a collage of what is important to us! We didnt finish so we will continue tomorrow.

                                           





House game! We played a house game!

We played a board game while I took pictures of the kids on their first day of school! Stay tuned for the pictures.
Math: We played a mental math game called Albert's insomnia. We played in partners and used our knowledge of adding and subtracting to find numbers in order starting from one. They did a great job! We got up to 19! Our goal is to get higher next time!
