Tuesday December 6th 2016

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Classroom: We did some organization and cleaned out our messy desks and filled papers into our apple binders. It was really good to get organized!
Language: Today we talked about making predictions. We looked through a story by looking at the title, pictures and first two sentences. Next we made three predictions using the following format: I know _______________ so I think ______________________. They needed to find evidence to back up their predictions from their own knowledge or from the story. Next they read through the story and answered some questions about what would happen next!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we talked about magnetic force! They knew a lot already from books they had read so they first told me what they knew. Next we talked the pushing force of a magnet when they do not touch and the pull towards each other when they do touch. They can touch when the north end touches the south end but north and north cannot touch as well as south and south. Next they had a chance to feel the push and pull. Finally I gave them several items and they had to use the magnets to see if they were magnetic and if it matched their predictions. They had so much fun! Take a look!

Math: We did review for the math test on Thursday.

Lunch/Recess

Music: Please see Mr. Andrei's blog for more information.

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Assembly: We started off the day with our awards ceremony for the IB awards. Our thinker for last month was Divyansh! Great work!

Next they handed out the awards for the science fair! We came in....FIRST!!!! Great work everyone!

Finally we played a house game.

Spelling: Spelling is due is Thursday and the test is Friday.
Christmas Concert: We continued to practice our skit.
French: Please see Mme Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we talked about four different types of forces: Gravity, Buoyancy, Muscular force and Friction. They learned that Gravity is what pulls objects back down to the ground; what goes up must come down. Buoyancy is a force that allows an object to float or sink. Muscular force is the pull on your muscles that allows you to lift objects. Finally friction is the force of two objects rubbing together. We did four centers in which they could experience all of these forces.  They had lots of fun!

Math: Today we talked about different ways to represent numbers. They could be represented in numbers, words, pictures, base-tens or in a place value chart. They completed a chart and then made up their own!

Lunch/Recess

Math: We continued to work on Math.
Gym: Please see Mr. H's blog for more information.

Have a good night.

Star of the Week

Friday December 2nd 2016

Hello,

Here is what we did on Friday.

Spelling Test: Tests were sent home on Friday and should be signed and returned.
Language: We played an adjectives game called Apples to Apples! The kids all had 4 cards. Each round someone chose a picture card. The rest of the children had to chose an adjective that most suited the picture. The leader of the round had to chose the adjective that most suited the picture. The person whose adjective was chosen, chose the next picture. Its a board game you can buy! Its LOADS of fun!
Christmas concert: We started the actions for the Christmas Concert!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we learned about push and pull forces! A Push force is something that moves forward. A pull force is something that is being tugged. First we did a scavenger hunt around the classroom and found different objects that were push forces, pull forces or both. It was hard finding forces that were only a push or pull! Most could do both! Finally we practiced push and pull forces by using scooters in the hallway! They had tons of fun.

Math: Today we did review of different topics instead of math games. First we found patterns on the hundreds chart and practiced explaining them to partners. Next we practiced comparing numbers on the board and putting them in order from least to greatest. Finally they completed a chart in order to practice ordinal numbers.

Lunch/Recess

Thursday December 1st 2016

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Art Reach: Today most of the class went to art reach and they made snowman banners! They were taught by an artist and had lots of fun! Here are some pictures!

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we worked on an IB learner profile. We talked about what it means to be a good communicator. They told me that communicators listen respectfully to each others ideas. Next we read a beautiful book called “Sitti’s secrets”. It was about how a girl named Mona communicates with her Grandmother, her Sitti. They don't speak the same language so they use her dad to communicate and create their own language. The pictures were beautiful! This book led us to talk about non-verbal communication. It inspired some of the children in the class to try and only communicate through non-verbal communication. They did really well! I was so impressed! Finally we ended this period by playing communication games. First we played broken telephone. Next we played a game in which they had to describe an object without saying the word or a synonym for that word. It was a great period!

Math: Today we worked on comparing numbers using the symbols < and >. We called them alligators. We did some questions on the board and learned that the mouth of the alligator eats the bigger number because the bigger number gives it more food (The wide part of the symbol points to the bigger number). Next each person wrote two numbers on their whiteboard and they had to use a pipe

cleaner to put the symbol correctly. We switched whiteboards several times and they had a blast.

Lunch/Recess

Math: They completed textbook work. They were challenged to write instructions for how they put three numbers in ordcr. They had to think step by step how they did it. It was a great question! They found it hard but most of them did it!

Gym: Please see Mr. H’s blog for more information.

Have a good night!
