Thursday March 30th 2017

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Language: We continued to work on our summaries of Stuart little. We are working on digging deeper into Stuart Little in order to find the Author's purpose. What is the author trying to teach us more than to entertain? Those who did not finish will have it for homework. Here is the list of important items to include and expand on.

Here is a copy of the book if needed: http://www.cashmancuneo.net/audiobooks/35/SL/SL.pdf

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: We continued to work our fractured fairy tale. The goal was to finish the plan if it was not done. If it is not done it for for homework. They are not suppose to write a lot of details on their plan. It is the general ideas for each section so they can flush it out when they write the actual story.
Math: We talked about dividing by 2,5 and 10 today. First I gave them some cubes and they had to figure out how they can divide by 2,5 or 10. Some of them could not divide evenly and they had left overs. This helped us to learn the term divisible. Next we did some examples together of numbers that would be divisible by 2,5, or 10. Next we did some textbook work.

Lunch/Recess

Math: We continued to work on math.
We ended the day with gym.

Have a good night!

Hello,

Yesterday our we handed out our caring awards for this month. The winner in our class was Elina! Great job!

Vanshi also won the caring award from Mme. Stella! Great work!

Here is what we did on Thursday.

Language: We read the final chapter of Stuart Little. We decided that we found it very unsatisfying! Next we talked about the most important part of the book. I told them that if something could be taken out of the book and it still made sense, it probably isn't that important. Next they wrote a summary of the book using the points on the board.
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: We started talking about fractured fairy tales! A fractured fairy tale is a fairy tale that has been changed. We read two books as a class. "Three Ninja Pigs" which changes the characters and "Seriously Snow White was so Forgetful" which is written from the perspective of a dwarf. Next we started planning our own fractured fairy tale! They are choosing one fairy tale and changing ONE aspect of it. They can change the characters, problem, solution, important item or from another person's perspective. They spent the period working on their planning sheet.
Math: Today we talked about using arrays to divide. We found it very easy! They did work from the textbook.

Tuesday March 28th 2017

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Language: We started the day off with Stuart Little chapter 13/14. As we near the end of the world we are starting to wonder how things are going to end! As a result, we made predictions as to what is going to happen. We used our knowledge of what is happening in the book to say WHY we think. We talked about how we cant assume things but merely say WHY we think things will happen based on events that already occurred. This was tricky and it is part of the DRA so it is important to practice.
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we started talking about division! We talked about what division was and why we use it.

Next we talked about how division is a multiplication sentence all mixed up. We did some examples on the board and drew some pictures to help us understand. We also talked about the mathematical language for a division sentence. The answer is the Quotient, the total is the dividend and the number of groups is the divisor.

Next we did some work with cubes in which they had to figure out a division sentence based on their cubes and write it on a whiteboard. Finally we ended the period with math out of the textbook.

UOI: Today we started talking about fairy tales! We brainstormed what we knew about fairy tales already and what they needed to have to be a fairy tale. Next I split them into four groups. Each group had one fairy tale and they had to write determine how the features fit with their fairy tale. They did this for four fairy tales.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: We continued with our fairy tale rotation.
We ended the day with gym.

Have a good night!

Spelling: Spelling is due on Thursday and the test is on Friday.
Language: Today we continued to read Stuart little chapter 11/12. Within these chapters Stuart talks about being Chairman of the world. As a result, the kids talked about what their rules would be if they were chairman of the world. The rules needed to be serious and fair to everyone! They came up with some good rules!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we talked about non-fiction features. We went through a non fiction book and found all of the features and talked about what they meant. Next we did a match up in which they had to match the non-fiction feature with the definition. Finally they were given a non-fiction book and they had to find which page each feature was on and why it was helpful.

Math: We reviewed multiplication and worked on multiplication word problems.

Monday March 6th 2017

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

We started off the day reading chapter 3 of Stuart little. We recognized that it had a lot of bossy verbs in it! Bossy verbs are part of instructions! We are going to use this knowledge to help us with a task tomorrow! Stay tuned:)

Maples Trip

We had an amazing time at the Maples today! When we arrived we had a snack and then Mr. Playford (the Principal of the Maples) took us for a walk with his grade 7/8 class around the forest and looked for signs of life and explored nature! They had a ton of fun learning about different forms of nature.

Next we played some games outside! The classes were competing to win the class cup! The first game was a relay in which they had to carry a balloon between two people to the end without using your hands. The next game was limbo! Finally we went back to school.

Lunch

We continued with our class challenge and played some more games. The first game was a game in which they had to all hold hands and move a hoola hoop down the line without letting go of their hands. The second game was giant tic tac toe. They had to work together to choose where to put their x or o and listen to each others ideas. Finally we played a rock, paper scissors tournament. Each person plays another person and if they win they continue playing with someone else. If they lose they go sit down and we continue until there is only 1 person left.  Ms. Hung's class came in first, Our class came in second and Ms. Glover's class came in third.

Overall we had a great day!
